Do you remember Buffy Summers? You, know, the girl who made it cool to love vampires in the 90s long before the world had even heard of Bella Swan? If not, then I think it’s time you met her…Much-loved TV classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer follows the life of Buffy Summers, a kick-ass teenager who happens to be the a vampire slayer, strangely enough.
She’s the one girl who has the powers to rid the world of demons and vampires alike while trying to lead a normal life living on the mouth of hell.
Together, she and her friends – the Scooby Gang – work together to secretly free the world of evil while also dealing with endless apocalypses, teenage love, inevitable losses and each season’s Big Bad!
To top it all Buffy also has a tendency to fall for the wrong guys – the dead ones – in some major story lines that make the Bella and Edward love affair of Twilight look like it hardly had any problems at all.
It’s been eight years since the show was an essential part of teenage life the world over but it will always hold a special place in our hearts for all the times it made us laugh, cry, cringe at the god-awful 90s fashion and drool over all the eye candy.
Even though the cast will probably never truly say goodbye to their Buffy-related counter parts – because never a weekend seems to go by without episodes being repeated on FX – the cast have all moved on towards other work.
The leading lady herself Sarah Michelle Gellar moved into acting in films like The Grudge and Cruel Intentions but has just once again hit the small screen again in Ringer which is currently playing on Sky Living.
Alyson Hannigan - aka Buffy’s BBF and go-to-girl Willow - has arguably done the best since the series ended, landing the role of Michelle in the American Pie series and of course Lily in How I Met Your Mother; which won a place in Geek Chic’s very own countdown of the top 8 cult TV classics.
The first man to steal Buffy’s heart, David Boreanaz - the actor behind everybody’s favourite vamp with a soul Angel – has also kept himself busy with stints in the spin-off show Angel and crime drama Bones.
Meanwhile across the pond Anthony Stewart Head, who made school librarians cool with his portrayal of Buffy’s watcher and protector Giles has also been putting laughter into the hearts of many with in his role as the prime minister in the hit series Little Britain.
However, the less said about James Marsters – who played platinum blond vampire Spike – the better.
With the rumour mill buzzing that a Buffy film re-launch is planned for next year – even if it is without the original actors and show creator Joss Wheldon – you might want to start watching the show right now to get yourself to grips with the series in preparation for what is bound to be a summer blockbuster.

The funniest thing about Buffy and Twilight, is that when they did the Series 8 comics, “Twilight” was the name for the Big Bad. Apparently it was a coincidence. But it still makes me laugh.
Dammit, I’m going to start from the beginning again now.

… this is the show that first made vampires cool and Buffy Summers is way cooler, wittier and prettier then sullen Bella Swan! have to say im abit skeptic about a film made without Joss though but hopefully it wont be a complete disaster

I love Buffy. It is so cool to see people still talking about it. Ever hear of “And then Buffy stakes Edward-the end?” Yup.
